Relatively new state park on bend in the James River. Great put in for kayak, canoe or just some other floating craft. In fact there are two main put-in ramps. The first put in is most popular with great parking, toilets and riverside views. From here you can ride down to Maidens Landing for the take out. The second put in is at the end of the park, past the River Bend campground. If you put in at this downstream spot you shorten the ride by just under two miles. The river in this stretch flows gently with one minor riffle (class 0.5?) near the bend. Maidens Landing is a public landing with plenty of parking. There are a couple little islands before the bridge at Maidens that often have nice sandy beaches. This is a perfect stretch to cool off on a nice summer day.
This park is very new and has all amenities very clean and very well taken care of. The trailer sites are meticulously very well kept and clean and I love the fact they are very level. Great experience we had a great time.
One of the very best campground s I've ever stayed at. Everything is new and first class. Cleanest bathroom and showers I've ever been too. Highly recommend, but a little challenging to navigate to.
Beautiful park with wide variety of bike trails (beginner/intermediate/expert), a playground, kayaking, hiking, listening to live music, or swimming at the water park during summer. Fun for the entire family, whether it's camping for a week or just visiting for the day!
HUGE park that offers tons of hiking trails, campgrounds, and various amenities. Walking on trails here, especially during cooler months, makes you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. My girlfriend and I went in the summer and encountered one person walking their dog on the trail we chose.
